Grant Funding
Up to £2.1 million of Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal funding has been allocated to SOSE to support the development of cycling innovation, research, testing and supply chain capability within the Scottish Borders.
The funding is available for Specialist Equipment grants and the criteria is flexible to match your needs and our required outcomes, but any applicants must meet the following;

Must be a strategic fit with aims of Bike Innovation Scotland and its funders (see below)

Can only be spent on capital expenditure of specialist and innovative equipment that that does not currently exist in the business

Assets purchased must be housed in premises that genuinely operate in the Scottish Borders Council local authority area

Must operate in a sector clearly connected to the cycling industry

Grant awards have no minimum or maximum value if within the remaining funding
6
Must be a formally registered organisation or business
7
Must pass subsidy checks and due diligence checks undertaken by SOSE

Funding decisions will be made in line with SOSE’s standard terms and conditions and if in compliance with the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal funding terms and conditions.
Scoring and decisions to award a grant
Scoring and decisions to award a grant will be considered across a range of criteria and for best alignment against as many of the following strategic aims as relevant;
- Does it deliver new or additional research, Innovation and testing capability in the supply chain
- Does it enable commercial engineering / lab services to third parties allowing product development or manufacturing
- Does it enable the reshoring of production or elements of production in the supply chain
- Does it allow a business to grow and diversify into a new area of products or services
- Does it support athlete performance and/or rider development in a new or additional way
- Does it enhance provision and level of safety and/or health and wellbeing in the sport
- Does it delivers a pathways for relevant skills and educational activity
Governance Process
- SOSE will manage the grant process within the terms of the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal funding.
- Expressions of interest are invited into mtb@sose.scot either requested a call to discuss your interest or to share a concise summary of;
- Applicant details
- What requires grant funding
- What the grant funded equipment will deliver
- Details of the total costs expected and any match funding in high level terms only
- If the enquiry meets the broad eligibility criteria, then the further details required for a formal application will be requested.
- The fund will run until all funds have been allocated and before 2030.
