Student Projects

Students across different courses have already engaged with cycling-focused projects, including:

1: Engineering

Modules incorporating the reverse engineering of bikes, giving insight into product design, materials and manufacturing.

2: Applied Sport Science
  • Master’s-level research using EMG (electromyography) to analyse muscle activation and rider performance
  • Undergraduate projects exploring tyre pressure and performance, linking lab testing to real-world outcomes
3: Computing & Data Science

Development of AI-enabled camera systems to capture and analyse trail user data, supporting research into rider behaviour and trail usage

These examples highlight how cycling can be used as a real-world application of academic learning, helping students build practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge.
